Creating Your Own Home Page Satellite Net Users Creating and uploading your homepage is quite easy. In this page you have information on how to upload your homepage to your web-space on the Satellite Net server and there are also links in the bottom of the page to help if you are a beginner on HTML programming. The first thing you must do in order to create your own homepage is to Create Your Own Webspace. The next thing to do is to install an ftp client like WS-FTP or CuteFTP and connect to an ftp client like WS-FTP or CuteFTP and connect to the address ftp.global.net.mt, having the main directory being your login name, that is, if your login name is xyz you have to type the initial directory as being xyz. Another thing you must do is to enter your own internet login and password so that the Satellite Net server recognises you as being a satellite net user and will give you access to your web-space. The main (default) web page in your directory should be named "index.html" or "index.htm". This will keep the URL for your page shorter. Your personal URL will be http://www.global.net.mt/username The index.html or index.htm file will automatically be opened when this URL is requested. A few things to keep in mind: 1..The entry point to your personal web area should be "index.html" or "index.htm" (this is the default name if no html page is given - this way you will have a shorter URL) 2..All HTML files must have the extension .html or .htm 3..Global Net does not allow ANY commercial content in personal home pages 4..llegal material of ANY kind is not allowed 5..Large graphics will slow down the viewing experience of those visiting your page Some helpful HTML sites: A Beginners Guide to HTML An Introduction to HTML How To Write HTML Files Guides to Writing HTML Documents HTML Quick Reference Extensions to HTML Webcom's Introduction to HTML Transparent Background Images Background Colors Background Sampler ISO8859 Characters (Special Characters) Creating Net Sites (Netscape) Web Developers Virtual Library |
